٢٠١١-١٩٩٨ by Nadia Refaei pieces together familial histories through personal photographs taken during her childhood in Syria. Now living in nipaluna (Hobart region),  ٢٠١١-١٩٩٨ is Refaei's personal response to the ongoing Syrian conflict and an attempt to maintain connection to family and country. Created through the laborious and unpredictable process of paper making, constructed to the size of a typical family photograph, the papers are carefully stitched together with linen thread to form several strips. The strips pinned to the wall cascade gently downwards, a reference to both the creation and maintenance of an archive as well as the fragmentation of personal memory over time.
